If you accidently close the autotest window (while its active), there is no way of getting back to the autotest session to stop it
Can't you stop it from the output window? If you pop it up (Ctrl-4) the autotest session should still be running there, even if the output window was closed.
Sorry, I didn't explain myself very well... If you close the tab running autotest but don't stop the service (pressing the red cross on left side). Autotest continues to run but there is no way of getting to the output window tab for it.
(sorry for the late reply, I've somehow missed your comment) I see now what you mean. In this case you should still be able to stop the autotest process from the progress bar in the lower right corner of the IDE (you may need to click on it if the autotest process is the only process currently running).
I think that progress indicator is good thing, from the point of view to be able to stop autotest, but as explained in http://www.netbeans.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=107738 it is animated and subtracts your attention, maybe make progress indicator static, or even hide it and just show the cross?
I can hide the progress bar, but with the current infrastructure then I won't be able to show the cross in the corner. I think I could add a stop button to the test runner panel and then completely hide the progress bar for AutoTest.
Such a button already exists in output window, but it may be better to have it also in Test Runner.
