Passing to Mac people, have you seen something similar? It seems issue is connected to Java update on Mac, as one of the
reporters has to say:

Creating a Class, can create packages, can't create anything else. Recently did update with Java for Mac OS X 10.4,
Release 6 (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/javaformacosx104release6.html) Problem seems to be
connected to this update as I saw this behavior once before.
