when the user executes an action that will create a second (or more-th) session.

Otherwise, the user may end up thrashing around to try to discover how to regain control of their first session.

They may find the sessions view or they may just finish the second session out of frustration.

Agreed, this is a known issue; session view should be shown automatically when two or more sessions are running.
