The following (most probably correct, at least working, as I am not a PHP expert) code,
<?php if ($mode == "foo") { ?>
  <font size=5>bar</font>
<?php	} else { ?>
  <font size=5>baz</font>
<?php } ?>

produces error annotations in all lines with <?php.
