This issue has been posted to DEA by one of the customer who has problem in installing Sun AppServer 9.0 bundled with
NetBeans 5.5.1 on Mac OS X PC. The customer un-installed & tried re-installing but did not work

I sent the log from the root install which was successful.  I'm providing the log from the install under my user name. 
I also have a screen shot, in .png format, of the Netbeans Runtime tab showing a right click drop down for the
application server.  This shows that the start, stop, etc. actions are not accessible.

Question : how do I install a working Netbeans 5.5.1 with the Sun application server? 

install.log from _uninstall in Netbeans folder when install is run under my user name:

So I downloaded the combined Netbeans 5.5.1 and AppServer and installed it which failed (Copy of Log in attached text
file).  So I installed it under the root directory.  The install was successful, however the app server will not be
controlled from Netbeans.  I went into the terminal & signed on to root, ran the startsrv from root & it appears to be
running (don't know how to tell).

I tried re-installing the netBeans and platform server edition 2 times.  both times I encountered an error in the
application server installation.  I can't seem to figure out what the error is based on the log file.  I am attaching
the log file output for you to look at.  Can you see anything in there that makes sense?

Folder /opt/SUNWappserver must be empty. File $HOME/product.xml must be deleted. Then please try to install asbundle again.

What about Windows XP AppServer Installtion Issue??? What files should be deleted to install successfully???

From error message it seems that AS was not correctly uninstalled. In such case AS installer will fail next time. You
must correctly uninstall previous AS installation before you try to install it again. On Windows asbundle installer
creates 2 items in Add/Remove Programs. Then you should be able to install AS again. Unfortunately this behavior is
deficiency of AS installer we run in silent mode from asbundle installer and we cannot fix it. Next asbundle installer
does not use AS installer so this will not happen when installing NB 6.0 + AS 9 together.

Regarding Win XP use separate itme to uninstall AS in Add/Remove Programs.

The customer has completely un installed the server properly but still he encounters the same installation issue. 

What may be the issue???

I sent question to AS installer developer what to do in such case. To me it seems there is something left so AS
installer  detects previous installation. But I do not know what to clean from disk/registry to fix this. I let you know
as soon as I get any info how to fix this.

1.Target directory must be empty (if it exists)
2.Look for file 'productregistry'. It should be located in <SystemDir>. (Ex C:\winnt\system32\productregistry). If it is
there delete it.

Now AS installer should pass.
