When letters are typed in the property sheet to initiate a quick search, the first letter typed gets selected. This means that if the user types "caption", the end result will be that the "a" replaces the "c" and only "aption" remains.

I can observe the bug on MacOS but not on Windows.

This bug seems very similar to one filed and fixed in 2008 for the explorer window; hopefully the bug just needs to be fixed in one more place (the properties window): https://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=137533
