Yep, mobility is the bottleneck. The new Java ME SDK 3.0 (used in Windows installer) contains a lot of small files (totally ~8000) and it takes a while to extract them. The previous Sun Java Wireless Toolkit 2.5.2 (now used only in linux installer) was not that big... Simple unzipping the Java ME SDK files takes about 1:40 on my system (old P4 with HT, 3Hz, 2GB Ram). I agree that some profiling and optimization is required to be done as we have never done against installer. BTW, you might want to check your HDD performance (e.g. fragmentation). On my system (similar to yours but with more RAM which is not a big deal) - with almost full NTFS partition - the full installation without servers takes only 6 minutes. So likely HDD speed matters.. http://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=194034 seems related Assigned to new owner. Worksforme. Install less than 5 minutes.
