Description mark4 2008-10-25 01:05:43 UTC
I would like to be able to move my cursor in a sane manner. I'm told the cursor is now known as a caret though I have
no idea when this name change occurred. The cursor keys on a keyboard are now known as caret keys?

This schitzoid lefty, righty, lefty, righty cursor jitter is very annoying and counter intuitive. When I hit "caret up"
it is because I want the cursor to move UP one position. I don't want it to move left or right or I would have pressed
those keys. Why "modern" editors seem to have such difficulty with this concept is beyond me!

By jumping the cursor all over the map as I move it you are forcing my eyes to continually readjust to its new column.
If the cursor did what I had asked for an NOTHING more it would allow me to track its position more easily. I would
therefore be more able to move it to where I wanted it to be in an efficient manner.

If I stop moving the cursor and its inside some "virtual" space and start typing, then the editor should insert the
correct number of spaces (or tabs if thats your poison) and then insert what I had typed.

This is probably one of the single most important features for an editor to have IMHO. Having to constantly adjust my
point of focus within the editor as I edit is counter productive. Please add a feature that would allow me to take
control of my "cursor". This should also be switchable of course for those insane people who like an insane cursor :)

P.S. as your issue page is constructed using micro-miniature fonts and uses badly contrasting colors for foreground and
background I am forced to GUESS that this is the correct place to post this). Being presented with a wall of mostly
unreadable text when attempting to post bug reports and feature requests doesn't help :/

And yes a wall of white with tiny black lettering is VERY badly contrasted. Please use a dark background with light
text as this is far far FAR easier on the eyes. (oopts... another feature request :)

ty :)

Cursor and caret are just two names for the same thing.

Ok, I take this is what you are requesting. It's been already requested in issue #83068. Thanks
