Description George D Girton 2000-11-09 01:16:59 UTC
I have become accustomed to the middle mousebutton thumbwheel. It's very
convenient to scroll through a help file or file that I'm editing. When I first
installed this mouse at the end of 1999 I didn't expect it to be anything more
than just a doodad. But in fact, all applications support it, it is incredibly
convenient and has reduced my repetitive strain problems quite a bit.

The help and the editor in the Forte CE 1.0 don't support the middle wheel, in
fact I haven't yet run into any Java application that does. This is just about
the first NetBeans bug I've posted and I don't even know if I'm getting the
right module to report it for. Whether it's a bug or a feature there's NO WAY
I could fix it at the moment; I'm a complete neophyte. But it would be good if
Java could support the standard middle mousewheel, it's a gift.

Java, not Forte, bug. Marked on JDC as "will be fixed in a future release". In
the meantime there are various experimental patches and hacks to get it to work,
see nbusers@netbeans.org or eap-interest@developer.netbeans.com mailing lists,
for example.

nEdit (www.nedit.org) should be used as an example of how the (unix) middle
mouse button should work within an editor. This editor rocks.
