Reassigning to core for evaluation IMHO adding warnig message that user should delete userdir after running with jre will be enough to solve this issue. http://wiki.java.net/bin/view/Netbeans/FaqRunningOnJre ... but agree with warning dialog at the startup if possible. You know the workaround, but consider there are many people not familiar with NB modules and how to enable/disable them. I saw the confusion of the users, NB just got another negative point in their evaluation :-( BTW newbie users do not know anything about userdirs, where they are stored and how to start with other user dir. They expect NB to work out of the box. They realize NB does not work on JRE, they install JDK, and it still does not work. You can imagine what's their next step. There are these problems when running on JRE (listed in order of appearance): 1) Dialog box listing dissabled modules is too big to fit on 1024x768 display. You cannot see top and bottom of the dialog. 2) There should be direct link to the mentioned FAQ, or the FAQ topic should be in help system (something like *More info* button). 3) The FAQ does not give you a clue what to do, when IDE is started again on JDK. 4) Automatically dissabled functionality is not enabled automatically! Agreed it would be good to have the clear warning at startup. Jardo, are you the one to do it? lcincura says "ignore warnings" - e.g. there is a warning. It's your business and your users who get's confused. Verified. |
