[ BUILD # : beta 5.0 ]
[ JDK VERSION : 1.5.0 ]

I would like the ability to rename the whole of the file in the ide eg if I have a file called test.html that I want to make into a jsp I should be able to right-click>rename to test.jsp , NB hides the extension from me and only allows me to change the 'test' bit , so I have to go out to the file system to rename and then refresh.

I think this would be very easy to implement as it already works if you have non-standard extensions - I have some inported .jws files and the whole file name including extensions is displayed and is changeable. - I'm guessing the code is doing a look up if its .java, .jsp etc then only display the first part of the name.

Ideally this behaviour would work on both the project and files tab as at present.

This reminds me of the default setting for Windows Explorer. THe first thing I
ever do when I install Windooze is to "Show file extensions" and "unhide" files.
This has bugged me for sime time. On mutliple occasions I have found myself
re-renaming files over and over. Ultimately, I get all flustered when I can't
change a file extension.
I think NB puts waaay too much value on a files extension. It should be a
weighted thing, but not the bible and treated in such a controlled manner.
