something i noticed: you invoke find usages for the first time, then click inside the tree, then you can use only keys according to my workflow. but if you invoke find usages again (without closing the window) you will get a second tab with usages. from this point you have to use the mouse each time you activate the "Usages" window (focus seems to be on the tab) is it related to 50372?
