When I start Netbeans 4.0beta2 and I have a many
Classpath entrys, than a popup window shows up
"Scanning classpath". This window closes after a
second and than opens again - endlessly. Only when
I remove the classpath entry in the project.xml
netbeans startsup correctly.

This was fixed in the recent dev builds.
