I just voted for this issue - but I'd like to qualify that I'm only voting for the 2nd part of this feature: sorting of tabs. The ability to display file names on the right is of no interest to me. I don't mind this feature existing, but I don't want it to be the default. I currently use JBuilder at work, which has this feature, and I find it is annoying for the tabs to jump around every time you open something. I also don't find it makes it any easier to 'scan' to find a tab if its alphabeticalised. Since the tabs wrap (at whatever point is dictated by their width), its not easy to pick out a particular tab anyway, so I tend to open from the tree instead. In addition to that, the fact that tabs 'jump' whenever I open another file means that I can't even locate the previous tab I was working with (something I think is an advantage of Netbeans over JBuilder). I suggest that people download the community edition of JBuilder and see if they agree with me before voting for/implementing this feature. reassigning it to core/winsys. I think netbeans winsys solved this effectively in another way - there is small down arrow on the right hand side of documents, which lists documents alphabetically, so it's easy to orientate. Also, for keyboard users, there is Shift+F4 dialog. I consider this issue to be solved by mentioned improvements, so closing as fixed. |
