It works for me on the same build (MDI, Sol5.8 - CDE, jdk1.4.2(b15))

Reassigning to Marek, new owner of output window and help system
Comment 3 Marian Mirilovic 2006-09-25 10:50:28 UTC
The core team has not been responsible for terminal emulator for long time, so
reassigne all opened issues to responsible person.
Comment 4 Lukas Hasik 2008-12-21 21:08:43 UTC
moving opened bugs on terminal emulator to terminalemulator/code as the core
component will be closed soon - http://wiki.netbeans.org/CoreQEIssuezillaAndModules

I's unclear how it was determined that this has to do with
the output window.
Considering the age of the bug and the rewrite of output
window this is probably a non-issue.
In fact as bug #182971 indicates Alt-F4 does indeed
close the IDE.
