Bug 242812

I've been dabbling in using the NB API for a few years now. I bought Rich Client Programming back when it came out and read it all the way through. I've read through lots of online examples and even spent days pouring through the NetBeans source. And in all that time I've never once been able to answer the question that drew me to the NB API in the first place - how can I create an XML document with a simple visual UI in one pane and an XML editor in another and have my edits in one smoothly update the other.

C'mon, I'd this would be the #1 tutorial on the site! But there's nothing that even comes close. I'd think that most people who come to the NB API are asking themselves how to do exactly this. As nifty as syntax highlighting and the Node API is, the whole reason to delve into the API is to write your own widget editor.

Could one of the people who know the insides of the NB engine PLEASE write this crucial tutorial? Or if one already exists, would anyone be able to tell me where I might be able to find it?

Sorry if this sounds whiny, but I've spent weeks worth of time studying the various APIs and following tantalizing clues only to have the NB engine slam the door in my face time after time after time. It's obviously possible because NetBeans has several tools that already do it.I'd like to be able to do it too.
