Reproducible in JSF page (JSP), to get the caret back, you can also right click in the editor Product Version: NetBeans IDE Dev (Build 201402190001) Java: 1.8.0; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 25.0-b69 Runtime: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 1.8.0-b129 System: Linux version 3.2.0-48-generic-pae running on i386; UTF-8; en_US (nb) The same thing is also occurred when new category and new item is created in HTML palette. This may be problem of HTML palette. my steps: 1. open html file. 2. open palette window 3. right-click palette window then create a new category (e.g. MyHTML) 4. select proper area in html editor 5. drag & drop it to MyHTML (create a new item : my_snippet) 6. drag & drop my_snippet to html editor 7. caret disappear my environment: Product Version: NetBeans IDE 8.0 (Build 201403101706) Java: 1.7.0_51; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 24.51-b03 Runtime: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 1.7.0_51-b13 System: Linux version 3.2.0-60-generic-pae running on i386; UTF-8; Bug confirmed for NB 8.1 Beta This old bug may not be relevant anymore.
