see screenshots, from what I can tell, a lot of time is spent in OS level IO operations, there is not a clear hot spot in terms of netbeans codebase.

in my opinion the slowness was caused by something outside of netbeans, either something was wrong with the computer or some other application was taking up the io cycles.

There are a bunch more recent duplicates. In my case there was nothing else going on in the system, and the IDE was responsive until I tried to open the Options dialog.

This old bug may not be relevant anymore. If you can still reproduce it in 8.2 development builds please reopen this issue.
