Description jopet 2011-05-06 13:58:54 UTC
Currently, several project types automatically show the name of a project in the project pane based on what is in the build.xml file or a pom or similar. The user is not able to change what is displayed in the IDE other than changing those files.

This is a problem when a user has checked out a project several times (e.g. several branches) or when project names are long and only different at the end etc. The names displayed in the IDE should be something the user can assign or change from the default which is derived from the files in the directory in whatever way the user likes so to better organize a large number of projects.

Main use case is checking out equivalent project from multiple branches; the Projects tab should be able to handle this automatically.

related or duplicate of issue 224536, even though that one deals with api/modules, this one is about user customizations..
