The splash screen comes up, but when it goes to open the main window, it throws
an exception and hangs. ide.log file attached.

already fixed, wait for beta2 next week or go download development
builds.  BTW the Debian package of blackdown jdk 1.3 is broken (at
least as NB is concerned), /usr/lib/j2sdk1.3/jre should not be
symlink.  If this is your case then as root do

  rm /usr/lib/j2sdk1.3/jre  mv /usr/lib/j2re1.3 /usr/lib/j2sdk1.3/jre
 ln -s /usr/lib/j2sdk1.3/jre /usr/lib/j2re1.3

This is of course a workaround.  Blackdown notified me that the new
.deb will fix this problem.

Resolved for 3.4.x or earlier, no new info since then -> verified.
