With NetBeans apisupport module, it's already possible to create
several things easier. However, writing editors is still a
complicated task. I'd propose to create a dedicated module type for
editors, as the module will already have complexity enough. Also,
this will make it easier to add extensions to the editor, e.g.
parser, editor, etc.

The plugin should make it possible to create simple text editors as
well as adding every possible feature, creating multiviews or even
graphical views of the data.
