I'd like to put a breakpoint on a line, but unfortunately, when
I click on the left bar, NB wants suggest I should "rename the
field" instead of adding the damn breakpoint.

May I suggest that when the editor is in "debug mode", then
breakpoint should have higher "click priority" :)

Yes, this is in fact a duplicate of issue #105746.
You can use CTRL-F8 as a workaround.

Verified ... and Closing all issues resolved into NetBeans 6.7 and earlier.
