Description _ viendu 2006-12-06 13:58:20 UTC
When look at the task bar/kicker bar, I see Netbeans and Firefox has very
similar majority color. They're different, but very similar color. Then, both
Netbeans and Firefox changes the window title to match currently view
page/currently view project. This is good for Firefox, because users would
change page often. However, for Netbeans, it makes it a bit harder to identify
at first glance.

So, instead of showing:

<project name> - Netbeans IDE ...

I would like to see:

Netbeans IDE - <project name>

This shows on the 6.0 daily build 200612041900. It was run under OpenSuse 10.1.
Users with version 5.5 didn't see this display, be already see the suggested
display.

Reassigning to "UI"...
Comment 3 Lukas Hasik 2008-09-22 15:53:43 UTC
I don;t see the point here.
The behavior has been designed by our human interface engineers. I'd expect that there will be always two groups
(IDE-Project kontra Project-IDE) of fans. We cannot satisfy both of them.

Assigning to UI experts

I do not have a really strong opinion and I'm open to discussion but let me explain why I think this request is valid
and we should go on and change the title as suggested. (Although note that the part of original complaint about
similarity with firefox is no more an issue, since the netbeans icon changed it's color in NetBeans 6).

In Firefox, it is common to have several application instances open (although most people use tabs these days) and the
page title is essential in order to distinguish between them. In NetBeans, use of several application instances is not
common and in typical situations, project either remains the same for long periods of work and is not a mean to identify
the window among many. (what I am trying to say here is that I believe users think in terms of "where is my netbeans"
rather than "where is my XXX application" if they are switching to other applications).
Comment 5 Petr Somol 2012-04-02 12:21:31 UTC
I incline to recommend not to change the current behavior (now after NB 7.1 we still have "Icon-Project name-NetBeans IDE version"). I do not think that this is an issue thanks to the the well recognizable icon that preceeds any text in the title.

Reassigning to Rich to ask for definite UEX opinion.

All,
I don't have a strong opinion on this. The accepted UI convention, at least in more recent UI design, is to put the icon and then the document/object name first (in this case the projectname), followed by the application name.

If that's the way it is now, I suggest leaving it that way.

I could support this easily with my show-path-in-title plugin
