Netbeans 3.4Beta3, Linux 2.4.16, JDK 1.4.0_01 internal CVS client Netbeans is open, running. Use a file manager or file copy to place an externally generated java source file into a filesystem that is mounted by Netbeans and part of the CVS. The IDE will hang, but no CPU time is being taken. It's a problem in sun.awt.datatransfer.ClipboardTransferable. Can core do anything with it?? If not, we should probably close this as JDK issue. Moving to core for evaluation, since the last one who called the affected code is org.netbeans.core.NbClipboard.
yes this is the JDK bug. The JVM deadlocks when it access the system clipboard. I believe a bug has been filed against JDK but don't have the number off hand
Hi, I do not think such a bug is filled against JDK. I tried hard to find it, but unsucessfully. I also tried to reproduce the deadlock, but did not succeeded (Solaris, JDK1.4.0, not Linux unfortunately;-(). I am ready to fill a bug against JDK, if no one else wish to do it. But I would like to have the thread dumps in a separate file (in this bug it is nearly unreadable), if possible. I would also like to ask how much is this problem reproducible (for both Ron and others).

It is easy to reproduce the hang in a trivial Swing app. Search nbdev for the thread "Clipboard woes" not long ago. Should be WONTFIX only after something is in BT.
