I think that the bug is related to the jVI plugin that I use and not netbeans itself because once I de-activated the plugin, netbeans opened my files just fine.

org.netbeans.modules.java.JavaNode has some problem accessing its icon, Java team please evaluate, thanks.

NPE was fixed by Jarda's changeset #1fd35694ee30 fixing issue #245854, fix should be present in 8.0.1
