Product Version = NetBeans IDE Dev (Build 201306232301) Operating System = Mac OS X version 10.8.4 running on x86_64 Java; VM; Vendor = 1.7.0_21 Runtime = Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 23.21-b01 Env: OS X Netbeans Version Build: 201306232301 I created a HTML5 project and created some content. After testing my content, I closed the project. Now when I try opening the project, I select the project folder and click open. The file chooser is still up with the children of the selected folder being shown. I checked with other project types too and the same behaviour is exhibited. On Win7 the projects can be opened without any hassle.

Could you please share the project with us ?
It sounds similar to issue 225525. You can make sure that 'Maximize use of native look and feel' in Option > Miscellaneous > Windows is not checked
With Vladimir Riha's suggestion I am able to open projects now.

I am not sure if Issue:231807 (https://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=231807) is related to this issue, but I believe so since the workaround is the same Workaround: Unchecking the Maximize use of Native Look and feel in Tools-Options-Windows
