Projects View

Hello, I have just updated my NetBenas C/C++ projects from NB6.9 to NB7.2 (no updates available so I am using the latest version).

1. The projects all build OK (but through the dependent projects feature).
2. Some of the projects (3 of 12) loaded without problem and I can work on them.
3. Most of the projects contains no logical foders, no files - just nothong in the
projects view. These projects are red highlighted and when I hover mouse pointer over, on the tooltip, I can see the message "Failed to load project". I am attaching the screenshot...

This problem is a total NetBeans show-stopper for me (despite of the fact that Oracle discontinued some development tools which were in use by us - which clearly shows that Oracle cannot be trusted - they can discontinue anything anytime).

Please advice what to do!

If you need some log then please ask - I am ready to assist - but please be very and precisely specific in how to create the log as I am NOT familiar with the NetBeans internals.

It seems you does not have tool collection that mentioned in the project properties.
In project pop up menu should be "resolve ..." item. It should answer on question "why the project is broken".
Comment 2 kakacek 2012-11-15 19:33:43 UTC
I already did this and it did not solve the problem - sorry for not mentioning it in my original description.

The tool collection is there is there and works - as I already writen - ALL THE PROJECTS DO COMPILE - event those which are broken...

Any other ideas?
Comment 3 Alexander Simon 2012-11-15 19:41:46 UTC
Probably it is a duplicate of the bug #220055
Comment 4 kakacek 2012-11-15 19:48:02 UTC
Nice - that issue is marked as resolved - but it does not give me any clear suggestion what to to to get rid of my trouble - perhaps to wait for a new version???

Why do you think it id a duplicate? In 220055 I do not see any mention of "Failed to load project" message?

Couple of questions

What tools are you refering to?

You submitted a bug indicating Mac OS X as a platform, but the screenshot is taken on Ubuntu. Which platform do you really use?
Comment 7 kakacek 2012-11-16 09:23:18 UTC
I am sorry again for not a precise/complete information.

ad platform)

I am using both, the OSX as well as Linux (Ubuntu and K-Ubuntu). I preffer to work on MAC for the user experience reasons but my development team members do use Linux as the have no (far too expensive MACs...

Yes, the screenshot is taken from Ubuntu 1204LTS.

BTW: The menus in Ubuntu have no borders - just a cosmetic detail but a bit annoying...

ad discontinued development tools)

I am referring to the Python for instance (but I thing there were more when Oracle acquired Sun - which was very bad news for the entire world - e.g. OpenOffice problems).

I spent a lot of time with trying to make the Python support in NetBeans working - in NB7.0 it was somehow working but causing a lot of exceptions. And it gets worse and worse as NB goes to further versions (probably the differences in NB platform are bigger and bigger and the Python module is no more being updated to match it).

BTW: I had to start using Eclipse which is (compared to my NetBeans experience) a real pain. NetBeans is so much cleaner, more consistent, easier to use than Eclipse!!! But I depend on Python very much so there was no choice - all my Python/JavaScript/Html/Css development is not painfully in Eclipse - trust me, I am firing a bug reports there a lot :(((

BTW: I am really worry about the Oracle VirtualBox product - what if Oracle just decides to discontinue it - without any excuse? That would be another disaster (like the Python one or even worse)...

(sorry, I know that this is another story but it is my pain)

Can not say anything on Python, but I assume there was marginal use of it...
And no reason to worry about VirtualBox - it is an extremely successful project - exactly what Oracle loves and cares about.
Comment 9 kakacek 2012-11-16 10:10:59 UTC
ad Oracle VirtualBox) Frenkly, your statement does not make me satisfied as OpenOffice was also extremely successfull project and Oracle still decided to abandon it. But you are right, Python module for NB is something a very different (much less users).
Comment 10 kakacek 2012-11-20 12:16:21 UTC
Anythin new with this serious problem?

---

I am affraid that the side discussion about the Oracle decisions to abandon the successfull projects hidden that there is a serious reproducible project - I am sorry about it.

So could be get back to the original and pending problem - see my comment #4?

Please provide additional information:
1. IDE log
2. Screen short of pop up menu of "red" project (for example "Main").
3. Attach nbproject/configurations.xml and nbproject/private/configurations.xml for the "red" project
Comment 12 kakacek 2012-11-20 13:18:46 UTC
ad 1) No idea how to obtain the IDE log.
ad 2) Attached - please also note the non-critical but annoying problem that the menu has no borders.
ad 3) Attached the entire project which is in red (but without dependencies).

Yes, I could not see it too.

And I observed that BugZilla has some problems with the sessions - when I click on the attach file link, I get to the correct screen but on another issue!

Those attachements are probably somwhere inside of your system but attached to who-ever-knows-issue :(((

I readded it and checked that it still is there...
Comment 19 Alexander Simon 2012-11-20 14:45:18 UTC
I can suggest one of the following:
1. Fix problem by removing from nbproject/configurations.xml elements like:
   <platform>n</platform>
2. Try to escalate bag to P1 priority
3. Use Netbeans 7.3

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 220055 ***
Comment 20 kakacek 2012-12-17 16:51:25 UTC
I updated to NetBeans 7.3 Beta 2. That seems to address my issue (but the NB73B2 is still unstable - uncaugth exceptions time-to-time).

On the other hand, I have one more serious multiplatform issue with NB73B2 - but that is a different story and I will raise another ticket on it.
