Description CElliott 2012-08-29 17:57:17 UTC
I am aware that Netbeans no longer supports the Swing Applicaton Framework (SAF), and this suggestion applies to that framework, but it might again someday. My application, built with SAF, will not open its window running on Windows 7 if run from a startup group (i.e., a run key in the registry) or from the scheduler or as a service. Nor will it sound its alarm, i.e., play its audio file so it can be heard. The only way to allow it to open its window and sound its alarm is by running it from the command line or the IDE. The app worked well under Win XP as a service. Microsoft will not investigate this issue, saying that they will not look at programs that do not have an installer. Given that Microsoft is the industry leader and not entirely obstructionist, what does this refusal to help mean? To me, it means supply an installer with any applications framework that Netbeans might offer in the future. If Netbeans can build jar files, then surely it cam build a simple installer for an application. It should be trivial, and it would really help developers who might want to offer their work to the public.

Clearly won'tfix (e.g. sort of valid thought, but nobody wants to work on it) in my opinion.
