[ BUILD # : 201206220002 ] [ JDK VERSION : 1.7.4 ] I have absolutely no clue what is happening here, but I will try to summarize: - Update to Netbeans nightly today (201206220002) - Installed Netbeans dev - Imported settings from 7.1.2 - system froze, I considered it a coincidence and unrelated to netbeans - system reboot/reset -> black screen - power cycle to get an image again - new session, started netbeans - Ubuntu message appears "Sorry, Ubuntu 12.04 has experienced an internal error" - I clicked details, system response was getting slower - "Executable Path: /usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.7.0_05/bin/java" (this is where I installed the Oracle JDK) - Alert box "Could not determine the package or source package name" - I can log in with SSH, but neither mouse nor keyboard input is recognized (f.e. numlock key does not respond, mouse does not move) Here is what I gathered from SSH: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Log Session: Saturday, June 23, 2012 8:41:51 AM CEST > System Info: Product Version = NetBeans IDE Dev (Build 201206220002) (#1698363949d1) Operating System = Linux version 3.2.0-25-generic running on amd64 Java; I will attach the generated crash file to this issue. While filing this bug the screensaver kicked in - after that I could use mouse/keyboard again, but after clicking on the task bar the system froze again. (Possibly compiz related) Note: Netcat form does not provide JDK 7u5, but this is what I actually used!

After turning off the machine for 10 minutes I was unable to reproduce the problem with NB dev. Sorry for raising a false alarm.

I just found the hotspot error file. Perhaps it is an Oracle JDK problem. (Though I still cannot reproduce it)
I am experiencing the same symptoms. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with Gnome on VMWare Player. The virtual machine has 4 GB of RAM and 2 cores allocated to it. I'm running NetBeans IDE 7.0.1 for my PHP project. Getting NetBeans to fill in a function call often results in a freeze-up. Another IDE I used under Windows would pause for 15 seconds on some of these and I found it annoying. But NetBeans is freezing for 30 minutes and still not returning control. top will show "java" taking 15-20% of the CPU 30 minutes after the problem starts. So I end up using xkill to shut down NetBeans and start over. I tried disabling most of the plugins, hoping that would resolve the error. It did not.

I was running OpenJDK 6 JRE when I began experiencing this problem. I have upgraded to OpenJDK 7 JRE. Unfortunately, it still occurs.
NetBeans 7.3.1 seems to behave better in this regard. It's a little sluggish with my project, but isn't freezing up like the older version.
