Typing an underscore creates a space. This appears to occur in all contexts. E.g. - Creating filenames (while creating a new project) - Entering text in the editor. This did NOT occur in any 7.0, or in any other previous versions of Netbeans. FYI I am using Debian 6.04 (squeeze), Gnome 2.30.2.
Can you please try changing font in editor or/all LookAndFeel of the whole IDE? It looks like some problem with displaying the underscore character. Thanks
The problem may to be limited the Monospaced font. The underscore does appear with several other fonts. I think that Monospaced is the default font for Netbeans - I don't think I've ever changed fonts before. FYI this is definitely a 7.1.1 specific problem. I still have Netbeans 7.0 on my system and it uses the Monospaced font with no problem. regards
> - Creating filenames (while creating a new project) If you see the problem even in regular text fields then it's a JDK issue. Do you use Oracle JDK or any other e.g. OpenJDK? Please attach your messages.log http://wiki.netbeans.org/FaqLogMessagesFile to the issue. Thanks.
In addition to the information requested in comment #3, can you also attach screenshots showing the problem?

The problem does not occur in IntelliJ Idea. See attached screenshots. I am using the Mac-issue JDK, Haven't switched over to the Oracle JDK 7 yet, as it is still in beta. Will attach my NB log.
