The proxy server could not handle the request GET /people/login. Reason: Error reading from remote server ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I have to delete cookies from netbeans.org to be able to login again.
I'm afraid that this issue is related to (dupl. of) #176565. So it's perhaps because of URI limit there. Lea try to discuss it with Marco, but I'm pretty sure that it will be the same problem here (http://kenai.com/jira/browse/KENAI-1687). According to KENAI-1687 apache url length limitation is 8000B.
But it is not about clicking "Login" on the page with the long query (that would be passed as original URL). I can just click the query posted by Jan Lahoda, quit browser, start again and try to go directly to plain http://netbeans.org/people/login and no luck. I won't log in ever again until I delete the cookies. Why some URL limit somewhere blocks this simple login page? Why the error message is so mysteriously incomprehensible? (Who should know from it that it's needed to delete cookies?) Why it happens only in Firefox and not in IE? (At least that's what I see.) This problem is present since the migration and still not fixed. It's increasingly annoying...
I don't see this problem in IE 8.0 either. Firefox 3.6.6 does have this problem. The error message made me think it was a proxy error on my network's side, which is very confusing. Deleting all the netbeans.org cookies worked, but that's a bad workaround.
There might be also be a limit/overflow on the combined size of the cookies. BZ stores some things in cookies. and the list of the last bugs or something similar is one thing:-( Can somebody try to look at the size of the cookies BEFORE deleting them. Thanks, -- Marco
If I delete BUGLIST cookie it makes the login page load again. When deleting it in Firefox, it shows a long string as content - it has 3665 characters (that is for the query reported on this page).
Since Lea doesn't work for Oracle or on Kenai anymore, we might want to reassign this to an actual person that can and might do something to resolve the problem... I do not know who that person would be... If I did, these issues would be assigned to them when I committed this comment.
