I could have sworn that Matisse used to allow the user to set the visible property on a component. But I don't see this anywhere now. Anyway, it's an extremely useful feature. Just now, I was trying to hide some of my toolbar buttons (and make them become visible programmatically at the right time): I selected the 5+ buttons in Matisse and went to the Properties panel to set 'visible' to false....only to find there was no such property :-(
Not only should it allow us to set visibility, but if the visible property is set to false then the component needs to be identified some way as invisible. It could be very translucent or just slightly grayed out for components and containers. Or, there could be a tiny glyph in the upper right corner of components which are set to be invisible. It could be an eye with a crossed out circle over it. This would help developers know this component should not show up when the form is run as to not cause confusion.
