Thank you Stepan. Now it is easier for me to test Netbeans and MESDK.

(tl;dr: Java ME setup stuff, not original topic)

Hello Lehel,
now that MESDK isn't bundled with NB, it's necessary to download the right kit and set it for use in NB manually (or let plugin do the work, where available).

You'll find all the packages (and documentation) on OTN, start here:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javame/javamobile/download/sdk/index.html
and follow links to Previous Version download if you need kit for non-Windows environment.

Latest releases by OS are:
Windows - MESDK 3.2
Mac - MESDK 3.0
Linux - SunWTK 2.5.2_01
All kits before 3.0.5 were 32bit only, so you'll have to use 32bit Java for them.

Plugins available for download on OTN (listed under "Java ME SDK Tools" category in NB Plugins manager after installation) are developed by ME team, not NB team. They are designed for latest MESDK release (3.2) and updated for latest NB release (7.2.1). They were also published directly on NB 7.2.x UC. There will likely be an updated version of them for NB 7.3 release, that's up to ME team.

Whether there is a plan to make newer versions of MESDK multiplatform is a question for ME team, not for NB team.

To create ME Platforms in NB:
    a) If you're using MESDK 3.2:
        i) Download and install the kit into default location
ii) Download and install the "Java ME SDK Tools" plugins
iii) Platforms will be created automatically by the plugins
    b) For other kits:
        i) Download and install needed kit
ii) In NB, ensure ME support is activated and open Java Platform Manager (Tools|Java Platforms)
iii) Use Add Platform... wizard to create CLDC and CDC platforms
iv) NOTE that SunWTK is not a CDC emulator, so only CLDC is available there

I just re-checked that MESDK 3.2 including it's plugins for NB works fine, just with a few minor issues, in latest NB Dev build. When you can't even create ME platform under NB, verify that MESDK is properly installed and working on your machine outside NB at the first place.

Regards
Stepan, NBQE

Hi Jirka,

Can you give us a little description of how to install and test Java Me SDK? I mean, i have some questions:
-Java Me SDK will be available under Linux too (as Netbeans was able to install in prior versions under linux too) ?
-are there plugins to install and test, among the Java Me SDK, under Netbeans?
-are there any restrictions related to java and java me sdk version and netbeans versions?
-so what are the steps to perform, creating a Java ME SDK platform under Netbeans, is there 2 steps one for CDC and one for CLDC applications?

I was unable to create j2me platform with the recent version of Netbeans with separate j2me installation, the Netbeans was unable to recognize the j2me sdk(i mean to create the platforms), installed under C:\.

Thank you.
Lehel

Hello Kent,

you are right that the size of installers changed. It's because we unbundled Java ME SDK from the installer. For more information see here:

I normally gets up in the morning, starts the download of the nightly

Hmm… Looks kind of strange, the normal size (for full version) is around
240Mb but this one is only 190 Mb.
