Out of curiosity, I set up a freeform project with JEdit in NetBeans and I
experienced the creation of multiple source package directories too. I can
set up a freeform on another small project I made and it does not do that. I
notice that it only creates the multiple entries if I choose the project
folder and content folder to be different. If I choose both to be the project
folder it does not create the multiple entries, but it should work either way
since it is a freeform project. Anyhow, I just deleted the extra 4 entries
and changed the JDK source to 1.6 to match what is in the jEdit build.xml
file. The project built OK until it came to the tests and then it failed the
tests. This is curious since it does not fail the tests from the command
line. I have %ANT_HOME% set to the same ANT that NetBeans 7.3 is using and it
is successful from the command line using the same ANT version.

So we have 2 issues that appear with the jEdit project in freeform:

1. multiple source package directory creation in the NetBeans project.xml
2. fails the junit tests when building.

I will file a bug report over these issues.

Here is the output from the NetBeans output window when the build fails:

Code:
