Thanks Fabrizio,
I took Dan's suggestion and used symlinks for the "builds" directory - worked 
like a charm.  I guess my SSD is already pretty fast.  My build time of 4295 
java files was only reduced by about 4 seconds (from 24 seconds to 20), but I 
was more concerned about SSD wearing out, so I'm happy with that.  I will 
also take your advice in regards to the cache.
