One thing you can do here is set break point in the getter and setter methods and debug the code to see if it ever gets called.

I suspect it doesn't.

You can also set up a simpler data type, like a string, and see if it gets initialized.

You can also set a debug point in your constructor method to see if the bean ever gets initialized.

Thank you for your reply,

MyBean is the managed bean.

i had omitted some of the code

Code:

<managed-bean-name>myBean</managed-bean-name>
<managed-bean-class>beans.MyBean</managed-bean-class>
<managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
<managed-property>
     <property-name>animals</property-name>
     <list-entries>
         <value>Cat</value>
         <value>Dog</value>
     </list-entries>
</managed-property>

it was a request to use the faces-config file.
I have used an example from a Java EE book, but it doesn't get the value for
the managed property, it's like it is not initializing.
im quite sure im forgetting something but i do not know what.

thank you
