Here is what I've done in details:

- My OS is Windows7 Professional
- I installed MySQL Server 5.1.62 Community (higher versions can't register
the Sevice correctly - seems to be a well known problem)
- I installed JDK 1.7 on my Program Files/Java folder
- I copied mysql-connector-java-5.1.18-bin.jar in jre/lib/ext folder of the
JDK folder
- I installed NetBeans IDE 7.0.1

In my NetBeans project, went to my properties/libraries and set JDK 1.7
platform and added the mysql-connector-java-5.1.18-bin.jar

I also set a environment variable CLASSPATH that points to the same jar file.

My java project code for connection is

Code:
try {
Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
}catch (Exception e){
//handles exception
}

Thanks in advance!
