Hi,

My set up is almost identical to yours.

Code:

Mac OSX 10.7.5
Netbeans IDE 7.2
MAMP Version 2.1.1
php5.4.4
xdebug

I was also experiencing this "Socket Exception" issue when debugging
(particularly when stepping through code).  Identical setup and errors.

The problem seems to be related to xdebug itself.  I went through the
process of building the latest dev version of xdebug directly from github
(https://github.com/derickr/xdebug - 2.3.0dev) and it seems to resolve the
problem for me.

For help in building xdebug, here are some steps and resources that helped:

- The xdebug site provided the main outline of steps to follow:
http://www.xdebug.org/wizard.php  ;(however I built source that was cloned
from github)
- However, the MAMP php5.4.4 installation required some PHP include files
which I copied from the PHP 5.4.4 source downloaded from http://www.php.net.  ;
(main, Zend & TSRM directories)
- I also had to install Homebrew (http://mxcl.github.com/homebrew/) so that I
could install autoconf (
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8430977/phpize-wont-work-on-mac-os-x-lion/ ;
) so that I could run phpize
- Running 'make' indicated that further files were missing - I got these from
the Xcode PHP include files -
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14132319/failing-to-build-xdebug

Hope this helps.
Prembo.
