ran a program without xdebug on and I get right results and updates to my
database.

turn xdebug on and trace the exact same program line by line causes a error
specifically with the line where mysqli->affected row value is being
examined. I can see the value 1 and then it turns -1 on the very next line
that doesn't involve any sql related codes?

if ($mysqli->affected_rows == 1) {     // this line value is 1 (correct value)
    echo '<h1>Thank you!</h1>         // then on the next line the value of
affected row changes  -1 (incorrect)????

could it be that the time stamp associated with the original database update
changed when using step by step debugging? and thus causing the program to
fail running in xdebug??   thanx for any info.

Otherwise it runs fine without xdebug turned on????
