Did you try putting your source code one the development machine (ie Win7 in
your case) then configure a Build host corresponding to your Linux machine
and then have Netbeans automatically send the sources, compile them remotely
then bring back the result ?

I am not sure if this is equivalent to what you have already tried ("New
Remote Project with existing sources").

I can understand that in both cases, it can be problematic to deal with a
large code base, espcially that Netbeans have to synch sources.

What I finally suggest you to try at this point is to set Netbeans to use
"system level file sharing" instead of "Automatic Copying" (See build host
ppties).

I hope this helps.
