Solaris Express Developer Edition 9/07 Released

By: Admin, 24 Sep 2007

Sun Microsystems releases Solaris Express Developer Edition 9/07, the free OpenSolaris-based distribution targeted at developers running on x86 systems.

Major highlights of this release include:

  • D-Light, the GUI tool to bring the power of DTrace to a broad developer audience
  • New Solaris Installer - the first new Solaris installer since Solaris 8 makes installation much easier
  • Support offering has been expanded to also cover installation/configuration.
As always, NetBeans and Sun Studio tools are automatically installed during system installation.

Solaris Express Developer Edition is built from the code base that will eventually become the next generation Solaris release. As a leading edge release it includes a much more up to date GNOME desktop environment, and much better support for laptop computers than currently offered by Solaris 10. Unlike Solaris Express Community Edition which is generated every two weeks, Developer Edition is a more thoroughly tested release that is made available quarterly.
