Description Petr Chytil 2007-03-02 10:40:18 UTC
NetBeans IDE Dev (Build 200702281900)
1.6.0_01; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 1.6.0_01-b04
Linux version 2.6.17-11-generic running on i386
en_US (nb); UTF-8

Ubuntu 6.10, default theme setting.

See attached screenshot.

Some icons are prepared to be placed on white background. There is something
like "white shadow" on different backgrounds and it simply looks bad.

Passing to icons providers and maintainers. Please assign further to Leos, thanks.
Comment 3 jrojcek 2007-04-23 14:24:23 UTC
I believe these are the old "Metal L&F" folder icons. They should *not* be used on GTK. Use standard native
folder icons.
Comment 4 Milan Kubec 2007-08-13 14:09:39 UTC
Dafe, what's the point of this issue? Do we need some special icons for GTK? Or are you able to use native GTK icons?
Last question - why is it assigned to me? :)
Comment 5 David Simonek 2007-08-13 17:06:13 UTC
Milan, I really don't undertand and don't know, sorry - HIE should tell you.
How is "standard native folder icon" that we should use defined? Where one can see and get such icon?
Comment 6 David Simonek 2007-08-14 13:36:58 UTC
OK, we discussed off line with Milan, we checked SwingSet2 on Ubuntu, native Nautilus browser and here is what we have
found:

1) Under GTK, Swing simply doesn't support icons in tree. Under other LFs, there are folder icons in standard JTree, but
under GTK there is none. So we can't use native folder icons on GTK, because they are not reachable from java/swing.

2) As a result of 1), we are forced to use some our icon, which will always be only an approximation (because native
folder icons are changing from theme to theme). Current icon is good enough IMHO, but there is little problem with
"white shadow" which pchytil pointed at in very first comment.

Suggested solution: Modify our icon, make these few white pixels transparent (if possible).

The new folder icon in nimbus colors and with transparent background is attached. Passing back to mkubec for
implementation. Thanks.
