I don't know what the correct cat/subcat would be here since its about entire ide. Using nb6, and jdk6, on solaris 10 sparc, running in ja or ja utf-8 locale, cannot use the OS input tools to input multibyte, for example in the name of a project from new project wizard (just an example) using jdk1.5.06, for example, the mbyte input can happen. on another machine, using jdk1.5, it did not happen. using nb551 and jdk6, it is ok. using a solaris11, jdk6 and nb6, it is ok only in ja utf-8 locale. using jdk6 and jdk notepad demo, it is ok. We have done this on a 2nd machine about this, and results are the same except as mentioned, on the 2nd machine, even with jdk5 the IM could not happen. windows is ok. will try on linux and mac.
Any ideas from core team?
Passing to Marek to try to reproduce on Solaris...
suggest as a baseline, to try it using nb551 and jdk 5 and 6 first, to make sure it works ok with that. suggest logging in to solaris at the login screen and choosing ja locale (dont choose ja utf8 for this experiment) ken.frank@sun.com
This must be clearly defined where it is not possible because in eg. New Project wizard value of field "Project Name" is strictly checked to avoid problems with portability between locales/platforms. So current Summary is completely useless. Somewhere it might be by design somewhere it might be bug. I will try to locate code which is responsible for checking "Project Name" value. Now I have NO idea where it could be....
This problem is not seen using recent nb6 on solaris, so am resolving this issue. ken.frank@sun.com
