-check-out some older web project with modified build.xml -open that project in the IDE => all changes in build.xml are lost - this is user file => P1
I meant - check-out project from cvs and then open it in IDE

The overwrite happens often but not invariably (could it have to do with permissions on the build.xml file?). I have seen it with Java EE applications and with Java client applications. Typically this is what happens: I open the project and find that the edited build.xml file has been overwritten by a default one (I check in Windows Explorer to make sure). I close the project and overwrite the new build.xml file with a saved copy of my edited build.xml file. I reopen the project. This time the build.xml file is not overwritten, but NetBeans still shows the default version for a while. Then at some point it figures out that there is a new version and shows that.
