Description Rochelle Raccah 2006-03-30 22:07:33 UTC
The dialog title and menu option is Server Manager.
The tree root in the left side of the wizard is J2EE Servers.
The JDK menu option is Java Platform Manager.

1) We should probably address J2EE vs. Java EE in the tree, menu, etc.
2) We should think about a more consistent name and sorting vs. the other menu
options

Jano, please decide what shall we do about this and then reassign the issue back
to me. Thanks

I agree with all your points. We need to fix the "manager" problem :-). It is getting bigger and bigger. But
as part of the defect, I would fix the J2EE problem and make it an enhancement and include it in planning
to fix the other issues. There are things like Java SE and Java ME platforms sharing one dialog, while Java
EE is in a special dialog. There are too many managers already. It's too big problem to be fixed as part of a
bug fix.

For "J2EE Servers" I would just remove the root node. I think the label above the list saying "Servers:" is just
okay. Would that work?

The original point in having the "J2EE Servers" node in the servers tree was
that we will add "DB Servers" node there in the future. The question is whether
this is still planed.

Another thing is that if the "J2EE Servers" top level node will be removed it
won't be consistent with the other managers.

Jano, are you still sure we should remove that top level node? If yes then I
will do it.

I am not sure whether I do understand correctly that you would like see J2EE
servers among Java SE and ME platforms in the platform manager. If it is so,
then I would like to point out that J2EE servers are something more than just a
J2EE platform and therefore we should keep them in a different manager - server
manager - as we do now.

Then I would suggest to call the top level node "Application Servers". But it would really make sense only if
we add the DB servers node. Can we, for 5.5, just hide the top level node?

Regarding "J2EE servers among Java SE and ME platforms in the platform manager" - I don't know yet.
Probably not, as it really is something different. That's why I'm saying that such change needs to be
planned for and properly designed and reviewed.

Moving to P4, since this is not a highly visible usability problem

TM -> 5.5
Comment 6 Jiri Prox 2007-09-17 20:29:56 UTC
Obsolete milestone, please reevaluate
Comment 7 pslechta 2008-11-03 16:17:01 UTC
NB 6.5: the window has title "Servers" and the tree also. So it is fixed (we cannot call them Java EE servers, nor
application servers, because Tomcat is not Java EE server)...

Closing this issue as WORKSFORME. Reporter, please reopen the issue if you still see any problem...
