There should a palette support in the XML editor similar to the HTML and JSP support. No content is needed but only infrastructure (PaletteFactory, PaletteActions etc.) to allow user to create their own code snippets.
Sound reasonably but on the other way why there isn't any generic support in CloneableEditorSupport or DataES? I can imagine that the palette controller is registered in a common folder underneeth the editor mime type hierarchy e.g. Editor/xml/text/Palette. Have you tried to talk to core guys whether they could provide this?
I talked. And it is not there bcs it is not as easy as it might look. We agreed on some default generic implementation which should cover most of the common needs, of course it will not satisfy everyone. The current XML editor can be easily extended with the palette support as it is now in HTML/JSP editor. The 'general' solution is more complex, thus I suppose to implement it in the 'old' way for now to allow users to create their own XML snippets.
Reassigning to default owner of selected subcomponent. New owners are gladly welcomed.
