This is probably jdk issue but its never been clear; this happens sometimes when
using jdk5 under en xp and then setting other locales (which is legal to do) --
and then, for some bold fonts especially, the boxes show instead of the
real mbyte. To workaround use a larger font than default 11pt font.

If there was some standalone java program that used the same ui objects,
fontsize and font names as in attached image, then it could help show if
this is nb or jdk.

FYI this is also seen in many other places in nb, like file explorer for main
project, on various wizards, and other places where usually bold font is used.

Is this still reproducible in Nb6? If enlarging the font helps then this unlikely something we can fix in Netbeans. Have
you tried java -jar ${JAVA_HOME}/demo/jfc/Notepad/Notepad.jar?

I think this can be assumed its ok, since since this was filed, nb has been translated into chinese
and we have not seen issues on this.
It is true that translated chinese release hardcodes global font size to 14, and this problem
in past happened at smaller font size.

also, as we discovered later, it did not happen on actual chinese windows vs en xp with regional settings
to chinese.

It was common in past for us to see such things as in the gif, but not as much anymore,
perhaps due to jdk improvments or differences in nb handling of fonts.

I am removing the fix-in-60 status whiteboard item.
