The background of the Miscellaneous panel in the Options dialog is white. In e.g. Ocean L&F (Mustang, Linux), this looks odd since no other GUI panels (incl. elsewhere in the Options dialog!) use a white background, and it is not the L&F default. In fact panels like the Ant panel are forced to set the background of checkboxes to Color.white, which is troubling. Please consider removing the hardcoded color and permitting the L&F to select an appropriate background color for components.
Miscellaneous panel is special type of component. This UI is some kind of "standard" for advanced options - Internet Explorer, Firefox, Thunderbird, Windows Control Panel, etc. I understand that it does not look perfect on some linux L&Fs. I have tried to use some standard colors (like List background) for this component, but there were so any problems that I was forced to rollback it. If you have some concrete idea how to fix it for some concrete L&F, feel free to attach pictures / patches, and we can reconsider it.
FYI, Firefox/Thunderbird 1.5 on Linux/GTK do not use a white coloration for actual controls. (They use a white background for the top-level button bar, but that is all.) I still think this is a UI defect and should be treated as such.

This seems to be fixed in 6.0 (where we get tabs instead of a tree). Shall we close this?
Right, Fixed
i've noticed that profiler settings still exhibit wrong (white) background on macosx. other miscellaneous panels behave correctly.
