The option to show line numbers and/or the toolbar in the editor should also be available in the "General" tab of the "Editor" subpoint of hte new "Options" window and not only from the drop down menu in the editor window.
Raised from enhancement to defect since I have seen on the NetCAT list that there are other people having trouble with that too.
Not a bug. Too late for nb50.
and what about menu - View - Show Editor Toolbar?
True that! ...but the editor subpanel of the options menu is the intuitive place where many people (like me) would look for it first, since it is there too in other IDEs (like e.g. Eclipse). Keep the essential options in one place and not spread all over the IDE.
I am not against. Original version of New Options Dialog contained Line Numbers there. But I am not sure if its not too late now. I have many P2...
Oh, I see! Well, then work on the real issues first and then on this one here if there still is some time left? ...deal? :-)

This has now gotten worse in 6.1. There is no View|*Line Numbers* any where I can see. I had to go into options then go the old way in advanced options. I looked for ever then gave up and went the way I knew would work. This would be bad for users who are new say from 5.0 up who aren't familiar with the advanced options and the way we used to turn on line numbers. Some may go months thinking the IDE doesn't have such a common feature. Care if I add this to the options window Editor tab? Maybe I can just add a new label and separator under "Camel Case Behavior" which will look something like: View--------------------------------------------------- _ Line Numbers If this will be OK I'll assign it to me. With Hg versus CVS I'm not sure how the commit access works etc, but I have commit access to a few modules (did with CVS anyways) plus I'm the owner of platformx, so I've been in the NB code often.
The line numbers can be toggled when you right click on the gray bar where annotations/ line numbers are shown.
I don't think that is very intuitive though. I think folks will still look to options first. Does anyone object to a patch doing what I propose?
There __is__ 'Show Line Numbers' tickbox in the 'View' main menu in my trunk build. Is this what you were looking for, Wade?
Yes. I wanted to make sure it was some where and visible and intuitive for users. If it is in the trunk build then hopefully that means it is back. In 6.1 'release' it is not. So, what is the official word on how it is supposed to work? I assume there was some user interface team idea to remove it previously, or maybe there wasn't; I wouldn't know. Is is to remain in View? Is it planned to be removed again? Anyways, what I'm really trying to make sure happens is that it remains in some intuitive place where users are going to naturally look when they want line numbers.
> In 6.1 'release' it is not. Yes, it is. At least in mine it is. Anyway, AFAIK it was designed to be in View menu and nobody is going to remove it.
Weird. On 3 different systems. 2 XP Pro and 1 openSuSE 10.3, all installations do not have it in the View menu. Maybe I need to ask around and see if anyone else using 6.1 release has it or not. It may be some module I have installed on all of them which is causing this on my installations.
I have figured it out. iReport is hiding Show Line Numbers. I need to contact Giulio and let him know that his module is causing this bug. I'll create a new bug for that.
I see, thanks for tracking it down Wade.
This old bug may not be relevant anymore. If you can still reproduce it in 8.2 development builds please reopen this issue. Thanks for your cooperation, NetBeans IDE 8.2 Release Boss
