Development build #200508221800 of NetBeans 4.2 Windows XP, JDK 1.5.0_05 Description: ============ It would be super cool if the new XML navigator would be equipped with one more button "Show Comments" allowing users to filter out comment nodes. The comment nodes are very useful but sometimes could make way for data elements if needed. It could be turned off by default = no comment nodes visible.
Jindro, what do you think about Jirka's idea? I would personally like having such filter (disabled by default if you really insist on that).
Navigator should help the user to navigate within the code, not just copy the Editor (for XML files it is quite hard not to copy the Editor :-( ). In addition to that, there should be some consistency between Navigator for Java and XML files - nowadays Navigator for Java files does not show comments, todos, etc. and we do not have any plans to do that. So that is why I am against having "Show comments" button in Navigator.
Well, your reasoning sounds logical however do we really need consistency at all cost ? On the other hand I don't feel strongly about it now and see the point of no navigation value of comments.
